Protesters vow to block gas pipeline that would go under Potomac in Md.

Grow Your Business in Maryland with digital marketing services from The W Agency WASHINGTON — Protesters are camping out for the summer in an effort to stop a natural gas pipeline that would run under the Potomac River in Maryland. A coalition of protesters kicked off the effort Friday at McCoy’s Ferry, a campground along the C&O Canal between Hagerstown and Hancock. The TransCanada Eastern Panhandle Expansion would originate in Bedford, Pennsylvania, cross Maryland west of Hancock, and terminate near Berkleley Springs, West Virginia. But there’s no benefit to Marylanders under the plan, said Mike Tidwell of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network. Related Stories Maryland governor signs fracking ban into law Maryland News “It’s not Maryland that’s selling the gas; it’s not Maryland that’s buying the gas,” Tidwell said. “It’s being sold from Pennsylvania and being used and purchased in West Virginia — yet Maryland has to take all the risk.” The plan poses risks to the env

Body cam footage: Baltimore man shot by police pointed gun at cop

Grow Your Business in Maryland with digital marketing services from The W Agency BALTIMORE (AP) — Authorities say officer body-camera footage shows a 23-year-old man shot by police during a foot chase had pointed a gun at an officer at close range before he was shot. The Baltimore Sun reports police spokesman T.J. Smith saying the footage released Thursday, as well as surveillance video shows the officer closing in on the suspect in a parking lot. The videos show the suspect turning and raising the gun, and the officer falling as he opened fire. The officer gets up and continues the chase into an alley, where other officers open fire. Smith says police aren’t sure when during the chase the suspect was shot. The suspect’s identity hasn’t been released. Baltimore water bills set to rise in July

Grow Your Business in Maryland with digital marketing services from The W Agency BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore water rates will rise by 9.4 percent, alongside increased discounts for low-income residents. News outlets report that city officials say the July 1 increase is necessary to fund repairs to Baltimore’s water infrastructure and sewage system. Rates are scheduled to rise again next summer. Public Works Director Rudolph S. Chow says the agency will raise the annual grant for low-income residents who fall behind on payments at the commensurate rate. The income threshold for seniors will increase to $30,600, up from $30,000, to match local inflation. Those who qualify receiver 43 percent off the water and sewer rate. The city also offers a Hardship Exemption Program that waives fees for environmental cleanup. Bay restoration and stormwater fees are not increasing. Naloxone is used to reverse opioid overdoses in humans. Officers are learning how to spot when a dog is experiencing an overdose, among other things. Several other departments in the area are doing similar training. Naloxone is administered with a spray up the dog’s nose, as it is with humans. Police already carry the equipment with them.
