How adidas Runners Benefit from Running Rituals

From what we wear to what we eat, the mantras we repeat to ourselves, or how we tie our shoelaces on race day, running rituals give us a sense of control in a world filled with uncertainties. Studies show that practicing rituals before doing sports regulates the brain’s response to performance failure, which thereby reduces stress and anxiety, and improves mental toughness. (1) Rituals can help athletes focus their minds and calm their nerves, while also building trust within a running community when practiced in a group. What are running rituals and why do we use them?  “A ritual is a predefined sequence of symbolic actions often characterized by formality and repetition that lacks direct instrumental purpose.”(2) What does this mean for runners? The knot in your stomach on race day loosens a bit if you lay out your race kit the night before. Worried about getting stomach cramps during a run? Always eat the same pre-run snack to prevent any surprises. For some, these are habit

First completed full-scale hyperloop built with ‘vibranium’ made famous in ‘Black Panther’ revealed

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) has unveiled designs for the first-ever completed full-scale hyperloop that is set to take passengers from Chicago to Cleveland in just 35 minutes. The commercial system is first being constructed as a prototype in Abu Dhabi that will connect to Dubai and Al Ain. HTT released a video showing the complete system with a stunning in-line station for travelers to board capsules that will cruise down three miles of track at speeds up to 750 miles per hour. The pods and system are built with ‘vibranium,’ which the firm says is the ‘safest material on Earth’ and is an alien-made element from the Marvel comics – it is mentioned in ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain America.’   If testing in Abu Dhabi proves successful, the firm plans to break ground for the US hyperloop in 2023 and have it running by 2028. After a winding debate that dwelled on concepts of redemption, justice, religion – and, at times, raw politics — the House of Delegates approved a bill that prohibits life without parole sentences for juvenile offenders. The bill also establishes a process by which juvenile offenders may seek reconsideration of prior sentences if they were convicted as an adult and have been imprisoned for at least 20 years. Debate over the measure dominated morning and evening floor sessions of the House, as the chamber moved forward both the House version of the measure sponsored by Del. Jazz Lewis (D-Prince George’s) and the crossfiled Senate bill sponsored by Sen. Christopher R. West (R-Baltimore County) and others. GOP delegates attempted a series of seven amendments to the Hou

The coronavirus likely traveled 800 miles to Wuhan from farms that breed wild animals for food, a WHO report found

COVID-19 News Update: THIS JUST IN: COVID-19 Breaking News REAL TIME STATS: COVID-19 Updated Statistics The Wuhan Huanan Wholesale Seafood Market, a site of one of the first COVID-19 super-spreader events, sits closed on January 21, 2020. AP Photo/Dake Kang After a month-long investigation in Wuhan, the World Health Organization has offered its best guess as to where the coronavirus came from and how it got into the human population. A 120-page report released Tuesday lists the virus’ potential origin scenarios in order of their likelihood. At the top is the possibility that the coronavirus jumped from bats to people via an intermediary animal host. But the WHO team, which visited Wuhan from January to February, was in the end unable to pinpoint which population of bats, or which intermediary species, was carrying the virus. The group did, however, determine that the cross-species hop most likely happened at a farm where wild animals were bred for food in southern China.
