Researchers from First Street Foundation and Columbia University found homes in the state were hit harder compared to those in neighboring Delaware and Pennsylvania. On a nationwide ranking of the states with the greatest loss in relative home values due to tidal flooding, Maryland was No. 7. The study found that Crisfield in Somerset County was the city most impacted by increased tidal flooding over the 12-year period. The combined property value loss was about $38 million. Ocean City was the next most affected with a loss of about $28.9 million, followed by West Ocean City at $20.3 million. The House Economic Matters Committee voted for a $15 minimum wage bill on Monday night – but without many provisions sought by advocates, including those that would have ended subminimum wages for youth, agriculture workers and tipped workers. The bill, as passed 17-7 by the committee, would also slow the rate of the minimum wage increase, starting in January 2020 and not reaching $15 an hour until 2025. A leading advocacy group expressed disappointment that lawmakers would “weaken the bill and leave so many workers behind.” The bill as passed by the committee retains the exemptions currently in state law for workers who aren’t subject to the minimum wage. (AP) — Authorities have arrested three people following a three-month, multistate investigation into drug trafficking on the Delmarva peninsula. Delaware State Police say 33-year-old James M. Frazier of Cambridge, Maryland, the alleged ring leader, was arrested Saturday near Dover. His bond was set at $809,000 cash. A passenger in Frazier’s car, 37- year-old Trivette Jackson of Federalsburg, Maryland, also was arrested. Police arrested 25-year-old Donisha Holland of Seaford after executing a search warrant in Sussex County. Police were still searching Tuesday for a fourth suspect, 49-year-old Reginald Sample of Seaford. Maryland State Police say authorities have seized more than 13 pounds of suspected fentanyl-laced heroin, more than 74 pounds of marijuana, more than two pounds of cocaine, a pound of methamphetamine, five firearms and more than $97,000 in suspected drug proceeds. The Baltimore Sun reports debate surrounding the board’s unanimous decision to reject the legislation last month was revived after the Feb. 8 shooting that wounded a high school special education assistant. Police have said a student’s 25-year-old relative, Neil Davis, entered Frederick Douglass High School that day and shot Michael Marks, who survived. Baltimore has a sworn school police force that can be armed during patrols outside school buildings and hours, but must store weapons during the school day. The legislation was proposed by state Del.
