Montgomery County man brings bikes back to life for free in pandemic bike repair shop

Grow your business with help from top SEO experts in Maryland When Ric Jackson opens his home’s garage in Potomac, Maryland, there are no cars inside, instead there is a line of bicycles next to a very organized workbench with a paper sign that reads, “Pandemic Bike Repair Shop. Over 600 served since April 10th.” “I love working on bikes, I love taking an old thing that’s really rusted and beat up and turning it into a thing of — in my view — beauty,” Jackson said. When the pandemic began, Jackson answered a neighbor’s call on social media for help fixing a bike. Jackson, an avid cyclist who taught himself how to do repairs, worked on the bike for only the cost of parts. Then he decided this could be a way to give back to his community during the pandemic and get more people riding. So he offered to help to any of his neighbors get their old bikes rolling. “I was happy with being able to keep both of my cars in my garage and shortly after that I couldn’t get my car in there if I

Trump is out of political options in his bid to have the sum bumped up from $600. He had delayed signing the spending bill authorizing the checks in an attempt to pressure Congress to increase the figure. But, faced with a looming government shutdown, he signed the bill on Sunday. Without the threat of a veto, and with firm opposition from McConnell, Trump has nowhere to go. Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories. Prominent individuals such as President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President Mike Pence received their vaccines on camera, and so have health care workers battling the pandemic. Despite that, some fear the vaccine isn’t safe, supposedly because the people behind the vaccine haven’t taken it. “Bill Gates said he will not get vaccinated nor his children,” a post on Facebook reads. “The CEO of Pzifer (sic) is ‘holding off’ in receiving the COVID vaccine. Travel Hacks for Crabbing in Oregon

Image
If you want to watch a show I’m totally obsessed with, Deadliest Catch, you can see how they measure the crabs when they pull their crab pots in. The best time to catch the crab is when it has not been raining for several days, and also at the end of summer. (Stay tuned for all the details of how to catch crab, along with more tips and tricks to make it memorable). I was able to catch one crab for the seven of us for dinner. This was not going to be very filling for all seven of us feasting on one crab. Luckily there are some friendly folks who taught us how to cook our crab, clean the crab and even had a few more crab waiting there for us in the shop at the pier. As far as I could gather, this was the only place that sold crab, and in March of 2018 it was $5.99 per pound and they clean and cook it for you right there. We elected to cook it ourselves back at camp, so they cleaned it for us, put them on ice for us. The crab turned out to be delicious! The most delicious crab I

China greenlights first homegrown COVID-19 vaccine

Image
COVID-19 News Update: THIS JUST IN: COVID-19 Breaking News REAL TIME STATS: COVID-19 Updated Statistics Chinese health regulators said Thursday that they have given conditional approval to a coronavirus vaccine developed by state-owned Sinopharm. The two-dose vaccine is the first approved for general use in China. The go-ahead comes as the country has begun to vaccinate 50 million people before the Lunar New Year holiday in February. Conditional approval means that research is still ongoing, the company will be required to submit follow-up data as well as reports of any adverse effects after the vaccine is sold on the market, Chen Shifei, the deputy commissioner of the National Medical Products Administration, told a news conference. The company “must continuously update the vaccine’s instructions, labels and report to the agency,” Shifei said. The vaccine was developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products, a subsidiary of state-owned conglomerate Sinopharm.

The incredible story of the cyclist who bought a Giant bike in China then rode it home to Newcastle

Chinese factories make most of the world’s bicycles, even those marketed in the UK as American as apple pie. I decided to cut out the middleman and import my own bike – but I did it the hard way, by riding it back from China, a trip of 9,300 miles through 15 countries. Giant of Taiwan makes bicycles for many of the top US and UK bike companies, but it also sells Giant-branded bikes. And I ended a 2019 Asian backpacking trip in China to pick up a rugged bike from the company’s factory in Shanghai. After a slap-up lunch (the factory folk treated me like royalty), I strapped bags I had carried on my back around Asia to the bicycle I could have just as easily bought in Europe, and started the long journey home. Ready to roll: Josh, 23, was treated like royalty in the Giant factory near Shanghai. Afterwards – he set off for Newcastle Josh is pictured here admiring the rainbow mountains in China’s Zhangye National Geopark A drone shot of Josh’s sleeping set-up, taken in China. He didn’t

China is guarding ancient bat caves against journalists and scientists seeking to discover the origins of the coronavirus

COVID-19 News Update: THIS JUST IN: COVID-19 Breaking News REAL TIME STATS: COVID-19 Updated Statistics Ecologists collect data from a wrinkle-lipped free-tailed bats on site lab near the Khao Chong Pran Cave on September 12, 2020 in Ratchaburi, Thailand. Lauren DeCicca/Getty Images China is closely guarding caves that once played host to bats infected with close variants of COVID-19, The Associated Press reported. The caves in Yunnan Province, south China, are where scientists hope to find evidence of how the coronavirus evolved in bats. But samples taken recently by scientists were confiscated, the AP said, adding that police blocked access to roads and sites around the caves in late November. Journalists with the AP and the BBC said they encountered roadblocks and met people hired to keep them away from the caves. The cabinet must vet all research papers based on evidence from the caves in Beijing, the AP said, “under direct orders from President Xi Jinping.” Visit

Your Butt is Photo Shopped…🙄

Image
30 Dec Your Butt is Photo Shopped… “Your abs are photo shopped” “Your butt is photo shopped” (now I had to giggle at that one) When I first started sharing on social media years ago I had a wicked strong core and defined abs. Something I had worked REALLY hard at. I would constantly get comments (usually from someone with a pet or plant as a profile picture) that I was photoshopped. It hurt. A lot. When video became a thing on IG those mean comments stopped. Now, years later, as I’ve been working super crazy hard the last few months to develop my backside, comments once again started coming in, not about abs but that my “butt was photoshopped” I wasn’t triggered this time as I now know this and have compassion: HERE IS WHAT I KNOW NOW Your mean comments just mean that YOU don’t think that YOUR goals are possible so you tell everyone else that achieved something you have wanted that their results are fake I’m sorry that must feel sucky. Ok here’s the hard core reality:
