JESSUP, Md. (AP) — Corrections officials in Maryland say officers have foiled a second attempt in as many days to smuggle the narcotic suboxone into state prisons.

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says 20-year-old Daniel Lamont Johnson attempted to smuggle the drug during a Saturday visit to Dorsey Run Correctional Facility.

The agency on Sunday said officers set up a checkpoint after receiving a tip and intercepted the Glenn Dale resident. Johnson faces multiple counts, including drug possession and possession with intent to distribute.

Suboxone is used to treat heroin addiction, but can be misused to get high.

Authorities arrested an attorney Friday accused of hiding suboxone in binders he took into a state prison in Hagerstown.

Court records do not list an attorney who could comment on Johnson’s behalf.
