Major delays remain on Bay Bridge after Friday crash
Traffic on the eastbound Bay Bridge on a summer Friday afternoon is never ideal, but those headed to the Delaware and Maryland beaches are really in for it: Major delays remain on the eastbound side after a crash with injuries closed the span earlier in the day.
Though the lanes were reopened around 1:30 p.m., delays remain on Route 50 headed to the bridge, and will be compounded by the influx of drivers headed to the bridge as a typical Friday rolls on, said Jerry Booth in the WTOP Traffic Center.
Delays began before Rowe Boulevard out of Parole, trying to get across the Severn River Bridge to the toll plaza, the WTOP Traffic Center said at about 2 p.m.
The westbound span was running two-way traffic in order to help the eastbound side out, but there was a crash on the westbound side before the eastbound one, so they’re back to one-way traffic, and that’s no picnic either.
The backups are having a ripple effect around the Annapolis, Maryland, area, said Reada Kessler in the traffic center.
If traffic returns to normal before the afternoon rush hour, “I’ll be shocked,” Booth said.
