Tornado touches down in Howard County
The National Weather Service confirmed Thursday that a tornado touched down in Howard County, Maryland.
This is the second tornado in the county in six days. An EF-1 twister left damages to houses and uprooted trees last Friday.
Meteorologist James Lee from the National Weather Service said that a tornado touched down around one mile southwest of the Glenelg area at 3:22 p.m. Thursday.
“We saw radar rotation signature as well as what we call a debris ball signature from our own radar here in Sterling, Virginia. And we went ahead and declared it a tornado. We’re not going to know the details until tomorrow morning when we actually get out there and start surveying and looking at the damage in person,” Lee said.
The NWS will do a storm survey Friday morning to make a determination of the extent of damage and what the EF level is.
Another place NWS will survey Friday is a possible tornado in Frederick County, Maryland, Ijamsville. A possible tornado has also been spotted in Spotysylvania County in Virginia, but it has not been confirmed.
