Firefighters battle 4 fires in Va. and Md.

WASHINGTON — Firefighters in Virginia and Maryland have been busy with four blazes early Wednesday.

In Fairfax County, Viriginia, eight people had to be rescued from a burning apartment building in Bailey’s Crossroads. All are OK, according to fire department tweets.

The fire started in the 3400 block of Carlin Springs Road shortly after 5:30 a.m. Video from the scene showed fire on the roof.

In the Herndon area of Fairfax County, the fire department tweeted at 6:39 a.m. that firefighters were on the scene of a scene of a house fire in the 12100 block of Westwood Hills Drive.

Over in Glen Burnie, Maryland, two children and five adults were taken to the hospital early Thursday, WBAL reports.

The fire started in the basement of the house on Wellham Avenue around midnight. A 4-year-old and two adults were rescued from the basement. They are in critical condition. Another child and three other adults were upstairs. They sustained minor injuries.

In Germantown, Maryland, there were no serious injuries as a fire burned through the floors of a home at 21331 Emerald Drive. But one firefighter fell through a floor and was quickly rescued, according to tweets from Montgomery County fire spokesman Pete Piringer.
