Infant mortality in Montgomery County, Maryland has declined steadily during the past decade, but the improvement is not shared equally by all races, according to the first-ever Fetal & Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Board & Community Action Team Fiscal Year 2018 Annual Report. The report includes a detailed look at fetal loss and infant death among Montgomery County residents last year, and highlights efforts to improve pregnancy outcomes.

The infant mortality rate - typically measured as the number of deaths per 1,000 live births – is a key indicator of the health of a community.
