The new Guinness brewery in Baltimore County is getting ready to open its gates to the public.

The brewery — Guinness’ first on American soil in 64 years — has set a grand opening date of Aug. 3, brand ambassador Ryan Wagner said Wednesday. The $80 million project, which broke ground late last summer, will transform the historic Calvert Distillery (later a Seagram’s bottling plant) into a brewery, taproom and restaurant that the company hopes will draw 300,000 visitors for tours and tastings in its first full year.

The iconic Irish brand decided to open a U.S. brewery to tap into the creativity and innovation of the American craft beer movement, Wagner said.

“We can’t just be about what we’ve done for the past 250 years,” he said.

Located at 5001 Washington Blvd. in Relay, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House will be the new production home for Guinness Blonde, an American lager currently made in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, as well as smaller-batch experimental brews that…
