BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore City Council is set to vote on whether to make acting Police Commissioner Darryl De Sousa’s job permanent.

A spokesman for City Council President Bernard “Jack” Young tells the Baltimore Sun he anticipates De Sousa will be confirmed at Monday night’s meeting.

The 53-year-old De Sousa appeared before the council’s executive appointments committee last week. The committee voted unanimously to send the nomination of the 30-year veteran of the force onward.

Mayor Catherine Pugh appointed De Sousa upon firing Kevin Davis in mid-January.

De Sousa would inherit a department that has been tarnished by corruption scandals and is under a consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice. He’s already appointed new top command staff and pledged to root out corruption.
