What’s shorter than a yardstick and can blow up enemy rockets, artillery and mortars?

Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) on Friday conducted what it calls a successful controlled flight test of its modernized miniature hit-to-kill missile, or MHTK. The Lockheed-funded test at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico was the first with the missile’s updated electronics and the second for its upgraded airframe.

“The U.S. Army and international customers have made it clear that today’s global security environment demands agile, close-range solutions that protect warfighters and citizens from enemy rockets, artillery and mortars,” Tim Cahill, vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said in a release. “The design of the MHTK interceptor enables a highly effective solution in a very compact package.”
