WASHINGTON — Firefighters rescued three children from a Temple Hills home of nine that caught fire Sunday morning.

Just after 7 a.m., firefighters received a call from a woman who said her house was on fire and her children were trapped by smoke and heat on the second floor.

Once firefighters arrived to the home on the 4700 block of Alcon Drive, they located a fire in the first-floor kitchen. Despite heat and low visibility, firefighters found the three children and brought them outside the house.

One of the children, an infant, required CPR. All three children responded to lifesaving efforts and began breathing on their own.

A man escaped the flames uninjured by jumping out of the second floor window.

Four residents were taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition for heat exhaustion and smoke-related injuries. All other residents of the home, eight of whom were home at the time of the fire, escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined but a statement from Prince George’s Fire and EMS says a functional smoke alarm alerted the sleeping residents to the fire.

Below is a map of the area of the fire.
