Cumberland man charged with sexually abusing girl

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a Cumberland man has been charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl

Members of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit arrested 45-year-old Timothy Jay Getz on Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officials say the girl told emergency room staff at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center on Thursday that she had been the victim of sexual assault.

Investigators say the girl told them she had been engaging in inappropriate sexual acts with Getz since she was 8 years old.

Getz is charged with four counts of rape, three counts of sex offense, four counts of sexual abuse of a minor, and other crimes.

Getz is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
