Audit finds $39K missing from account of Montgomery Co. Council of PTAs
WASHINGTON — The Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations says an internal audit found $39,000 missing from its checking account.
A letter sent to members says the money was taken “most likely by someone inside MCCPTA.”
Problems with the group’s financial reports were noticed earlier this year, and an independent audit team was put together in March. The team sifted through around nine months of account transactions, going back to July 1 of last year, in search of suspicious transactions.
Montgomery County police were first notified April 10, and the findings of the audit were forwarded to detectives on April 21.
Officer Rick Goodale told WTOP his department is in the very early stages of its investigation, and no charges have been filed so far.
